Duckett on Deben - A&E (Alcohol and Excess)

E-mail Print

What has changed in our society to make young people want to drink so much?

It’s great to go out with friends and socialise and have a drink or two, but why do so many of us have to drink to excess. For many it is no longer a question of drinking, it’s more a question of getting drunk!

Let’s face it you only have to turn on the tv over an evening and it is likely you will see a ‘real-life’ programme dealing with this very issue; young people’s holidays in Ibiza; or programmes about nightclubs, bouncers, police-type shows, all have examples of the way in which young men and women are conducting themselves.

The fact that alcohol can be purchased so cheaply from supermarkets is one factor yes, but it has to be more than that, why do people need to be drunk to enjoy themselves?
